Overview

The 9th annual Ice on Whyte Festival takes place January 12 – 22, 2012!
Artists from around the globe are participating in the ice carving competition sanctioned by The National Ice Carving Association. The ice carving competition launches the festival, and takes place January 13th to 15th, 2012. The judging starts at noon on Sunday and awards are presented in the YESS Cafe at approximately 3 pm.
In addition to the ice carving competition, the festival includes:
- 10 ice and snow carvers coming from China to work with Canadian artists to create ice and snow carvings
- ice and snow animals from Canada and China
- St. Sophia's, a Russian influenced cathedral built in the centre of Harbin city in 1907
- giant ice slide
- children's play area
- family skating next to the Strathcona Centre Community League
- live musical entertainment by Alberta Artists
- hot beverages in the heated YESS Cafe
