EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS
what is the L'il Chipper public art project?
Ice on Whyte will present two educational ice carving programs in 2011, a weekday program for school groups and an evening program for the general public. Chipper classes are taught by local artists. The completed ice carvings will be on display in the park for the public to view.
Evening L’il Chipper Programs:
Drop- in evening chipper classes are available Jan 17 to 21 from 7 pm to 8 pm for the first 15 people who register. Cost is $3 per person. Stop by the L'il Chipper tent on the site to register. Regular gate admission still applies.
School Program
In the L’il Chippers school workshop program, children experience the art of ice sculpting first hand and educators are encouraged to discuss the science of ice and water in the classroom before and after the workshop. School group workshops run January 17 – 21, 2011 from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm. Each class is booked for one hour. There is an ice carving lesson and time left to play in the park. Chipper classes cost $3 per student.
Groups can be up to a maximum of 30 students. Each group must provide 3 – 4 adults supervisors for the workshops and outdoor activities. Weather appropriate clothing is mandatory.
The Van Houtte Cafe, a heated tent on the festival site, is available for school use if the students are supervised by at least two parent volunteers. The tent may be used for snacks and lunches as well if the classes ensure that they will clean the Cafe when done. Hot cocolate is available and a minimum donation of $1 per student is accepted. No students with hot beverages, snacks and lunches may leave the Cafe at any time.
Classroom groups register in advance by email, telephone or fax by submitting the L'il Chippers Information and Registration Form. Once the date and time of your workshop has been confirmed with Ice on Whyte, an invoice will be sent for pre-payment.
Teachers must present a parent signed and completed L'il Chippers Student Waiver Form to the instructor for each student.
