what's so great about being an artist at ICE ON WHYTE?

The Ice on Whyte Festival takes place in the Old Strathcona area of Edmonton, Alberta.

Artists from around the globe are invited to carve out their place in Festival Park, in Old Strathcona. Carving will take place from Thursday morning to Saturday at noon. Sculptures will be judged on Saturday afternoon and the festival will continue on until the following Sunday.

Crushed Ice Never Again from Calgary, AB carving Pegasus
Chili’s Chill from Edmonton, AB carving Aquarium
Scott from Calgary, AB and Kee from Sweden carving Branching Out
Ice Guys from Edmonton, AB carving Neptune Dreams

Each team recieves:

  • 15 blocks of ice provided by IceCulture
  • Carving area, approximately 20X20 ft, with electricity
  • Competition entry includes four nights accommodations (one room only) at a local hotel, provided by Day’s Inn - Edmonton South, the Ice on Whyte official hotel
  • Breakfast provided by Day's Inn 
  • Lunch and supper certificates provided by local Whyte Avenue businesses
  • Participants also receive an Ice on Whyte certificate of participation
  • NICA medals and certificates of participation
  • Festival prize and trophy categories
    • First, second and third place prizes as selected by official NICA judges
    • People's choice award - spectators vote for their favourite sculpture
    • Artist's choice award - competing artists choose their favourite sculpture
