what's so great about being an artist at ICE ON WHYTE?
The Ice on Whyte Festival takes place in the Old Strathcona area of Edmonton, Alberta from January 13 - 23, 2011. The carving competition starts Thursday, January 13th at 8 am and ends January 15th at noon. The festival can accommodate 10 carving teams of up to 3 artists per team for the festival so register early.
Artists from around the globe are invited to carve out their place in Festival Park, in Old Strathcona. Sculptures will be judged on Saturday afternoon and awards are presented at about 3:00 pm. The festival continues until the following Sunday.
Each team recieves:
- 15 blocks of Ice Culture ice
- Carving area, approximately 20X20 ft, with electricity
- Competition entry includes four nights accommodations (one room only) at a local hotel, provided by Day’s Inn - Edmonton South, the Ice on Whyte official hotel
- Breakfast provided by Day's Inn
- Lunch and supper certificates provided by local Whyte Avenue businesses
- A certificate of participation
- NICA medals and certificates of participation
- Festival prize and trophy categories
- Cash prizes for first, second and third place as determined by official NICA judges
- People's choice award trophy - visitors vote for their favourite sculpture
- Artist's choice award trophy - competing artists choose their favourite sculpture
